Free Being Me & Action On Body Confidence

Strong body confidence is an important step towards building self-esteem, empowering the leaders of tomorrow. But in societies all over the world, children and young people list the way they look among their top concerns. They feel under pressure to change their appearance to fit in with society’s narrow image of beauty, which is presented in the media and idealized by their peers.

Free Being Me & Action on Body Confidence Program addresses this issue directly by supporting the youth to become more body confident, and not let concerns about their appearance hold them back from becoming active, responsible and confident citizens of the world. Body confidence helps children and young people build the foundations they need to become role models and leaders in their communities.

Our Guides have been working on Free Being Me program and now Action on Body confidence is a new program recently launched by WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides & Girl Scouts) to promote the self-esteem and body confidence of Youth around the world.  Pakistan Girl Guides Association has initiated this program in Pakistan with this training.

WAGGGS’s recent global Self-Esteem Project research has shown that when girls don’t feel good about the way they look, 8 in 10 miss out important life activities such as engaging with friends or loved ones, and 7 in 10 have not been assertive in their option or stuck to a decision. When girls don’t have confidence in their appearance, they are being held back from reaching their full potential.

After taking part in this program Guides will develop skills in teamwork, planning, research, event management and decision making, as well as campaigning, community action and advocacy.
