Who Are We?

Girl Guiding in Pakistan became functional shortly after independence. On 29th December, 1947 Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah called a meeting of the Girl Guides representatives who had opted to live in Pakistan. These were only a few of the members of undivided India’s Girl Guide Association, which had begun in 1911. In this meeting the Pakistan Girl Guides Association was formed, Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah was asked to be the Patron of the Guide movement: an office she held as long as she lived. Begum G.A. Khan was elected as the first Chief Commissioner of the Association.

In August 1948 the Association was recognized as a Single Unit Full Member of the WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts) at the 12th World Conference in Cooperstown, USA.

Pakistan Girl Guides Association has the status of a National organization. The Association is protected and incorporated by Ordinance No. XLIV of 1960 by the Government of Pakistan.

National Headquarters (NHQ)

The National Headquarters Building was inaugurated by Begum Nusrat Bhutto on 5th November 1974 and 6th All Pakistan was held at the National Headquarters Islamabad in which 800 Guides and leaders from all over the country participated.

On 4th November 1976 the National Training Center became functional with the appointment of permanent staff. 8th and 9th All Pakistan Camps were held here in 1991 and 1995. And the 10th All Pakistan Camp was held from 1st to 8th November, 2006 at Islamabad

In 1991 National Headquarters hosted 21st Committee Meeting of AP Region. Mrs. Lena Levidis, Vice Chairman, World Committee, hoisted the new World Flag at National Headquarters for the first time.

What We Do

Program

Pakistan Girl Guides Association offers a dynamic educational program to girls and young women to develop their fullest potential as responsible citizens, capable of performing their duties in the home as well as community and the country. It also emphasizes the importance of individual contributions towards the community.

The membership of Guide Movement in Pakistan is based in the Formal and Non-Formal Education Institutions. Guiding is all about life skills enabling them to make a difference in their homes, communities and country. The Guiding structure in Pakistan is based on democratic principles to provide opportunities to all young members to learn and take responsibilities during their weekly meetings of Guides companies.

The Girl Guides program lays stress on community development projects by giving girls the opportunity to learn about health, nutrition, environment and economic uplift through different activities.

Membership of Pakistan Gil Guides Association is open to all girls and young women to different background irrespective of cast, creed and religion. A Girl Guide accepts the Promise and the Law based on spiritual values, personal development and commitment to helping others. The program is delivered through interactive non formal methods using guiding techniques.

Camping

Outdoor activities, especially camping, are often the highlight of Guiding for many girls. Camping can greatly enhance girls program by taking advantage of opportunities for outdoor adventures. They can explore and discover the wonders of nature, developing their appreciation of the world around them. They can learn technical skills that will allow them to be comfortable and confident outdoors as they learn to protect and use natural resources wisely. Best of all, through camping and outdoor activities, girls grow stronger and more independent, as they increase their confidence and resourcefulness.

Camping is an integral Part of Guiding. Camping and outdoor program activities provide an experience of adventure, challenge, teamwork opportunities, confidence building and fun to the girls.

Guide camp is a perfect place for Girls to practice making decisions and meeting challenges, independent of parents or teachers. Camp is a safe place filled with many firsts. Camping provides them a chance to grow. At camp, girls make choices and meet challenges in a structured, supportive, supervised environment. Camp experiences are opportunities to practice problem-solving, a key developmental skill.

Living in community at camp is a great way for young girls to practice teamwork, communication, and conflict-resolution. We teach girls how to make friends and provide positive staff role models to help them be successful at camp and connect with others. Camp brings together girls from different backgrounds and coming to camp means joining a community where everyone agrees to cooperate and respect each other. Many of our camp sessions begin with team building, cooperative-games, or low-ropes activities facilitated by trained staff. These activities are fun with an important purpose which is to strengthen group connections, improve communication, and build trust.

The value of an outdoor experience in a child’s life is beyond measure. The outdoors not only offers adventure and challenge – it offers FUN! Camp provides a safe place for young people to try new things and challenge themselves.

Girl Guide camp is a great place for girls to explore leadership, build skills, make memories, and develop an appreciation for nature. Whether they go for a day, a week, or longer, every child deserves a chance to camp!
