Camping is an integral part of Guiding. Living away from home, in simple surroundings with just the basic necessities of life, Guides learn to become independent and enjoy life in its simplicity. Sharing a tent with 6- 8 girls, the girls learn to be considerate of others. At the same time being part of a bigger group, which could range from 30 to 1000 they learn loyalty, helpfulness, teamwork and discipline and of course enjoy themselves. The daily duties help to prepare them for adult life.
They learn by doing and since this is all done as part of a group of girls of their own age group, these duties become a challenge and fun rather than drudgery. Guides can have one-day camps or small camps within their companies or they could be participating on district, divisional, provincial level or best of all on the national level. These big gatherings give the Guides an opportunity to interact with Guides from other areas and bring about a national feeling and promote their inter-regional understanding.
