Recent International Events attended by PGGA Members

AP Workshop on Educational Program and Adult Training, Learning and Development

Asia Pacific Region of WAGGGS organized a Workshop on Educational Program and Adult Training, Learning and Development from 7th to 13th December, 2015 at Baguio, Philippines. 46 participants from nine Member Organizations attended the workshop.
The workshop was planned to support both volunteers and professionals to understand the new policies on Educational Program and Adult Training, Learning and Development thoroughly. It included the process of Educational Program framework development. Mrs. Tahira Ahmed, National Secretary and Khawar Ehsan, Public Relations Officer represented Pakistan in the Workshop.

Round Table: A Movement of Ideas for Growth Results

In November, 2015 WAGGGS organized a “Round Table: A Movement of Ideas for Growth Results” in London to empower the Member Organizations with knowledge and tools for membership growth. This was a chance for Member Organizations to engage with each other, external experts and speakers on good practices in membership growth and have the opportunity to make connections and contacts for further collaboration in areas that promote growth. Senator Nuzhat Sadiq, National Commissioner represented Pakistan Girl Guides Association in the Conference.

BP Quest 2015

The Be Prepared (BP) Quest is a biennial event organized by Girl Guides Singapore (GGS). Eighty four Girl Guides and Girl Scouts from 8 countries competed in the BP Quest in Singapore from 22 to 24 June 2015.  The Quest, which is open to members of the Asia Pacific Region promotes the knowledge and spirit of International Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting.  Participants were tested on their knowledge on WAGGGS and the United Nations, Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting in the Asia Pacific Region, Girl Guiding in Singapore and knowledge in Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting skills e.g. First Aid, Knots, Outdoor Cooking, Fauna and Flora and ASEAN. 5 Girls from Pakistan Girl Guides Association attended.

59th Commission on Status of Women (CSW)

The 59th UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) was held from 7th to 14st March, 2015 at the UN Headquarters in New York, USA. The CSW takes place every year to discuss the global agenda for girls and young women.

This year again, WAGGGS selected a representative from the Pakistan Girl Guides Association, Ms. Afshan Saleem (Young Leader from Baluchistan) to be part of their delegation. She shared the progress that Pakistan has made in the MDGs especially with relationship to empowering women. Ms. Afshan Saleem had the opportunity to attend many informative events, raise questions and create debate that could influence decision makers. She was part of WAGGGS’ Communication team and conducted two sessions as well.

Asia Pacific Conference for Leaders, Australia

The Asia Pacific Conference for Leaders of Girls was organized by the Asia Pacific Region to address the needs of leaders working with girls at the company level. The aim of the event was to inspire, refresh and equip leaders with new ideas to strengthen the delivery of the Guide Program.

The event took place from 30th November, 2014 to 5th December, 2014 and was hosted by Girl Guides Australia at University College, Melbourne, Australia. The event was attended by 150 participants from 22 countries.

The theme of the Conference was “Asia Pacific – Anything’s Possible”. The aim to choose this theme was to develop leaders who are creative, open to new ideas “think out of the box” and are able to attract the girls of today. Mrs. Tahira Ahmed, Mrs. Shamsa Kashif, Syeda Khawar Ehsan and Ms. Tahira Sultan represented Pakistan Girl Guides Association.

Free Being Me, Sangam India

Free being me is the new badge curriculum launched by WAGGGS and Dove to boost the body confidence of girls thus building their self esteem so girls can utilize their potentials and can standing up to social pressures, and supporting others to be more body confident. To introduce this badge in Asia Pacific Region WAGGGS organized training from 12th to 16th June, 2014 at Sangam World Center, India. During the training discussions about different topics like world conference theme,Governance Review, Strategic Board, Nominations Committee, Incorporation, Quota and Strategic Plan 2015-17 were also discussed.  Mrs. Shamsa Kashif and Mrs. Salma Sajjad attended the training from Pakistan.

WLDP training in Oman

Under the theme “Leaders know the way, go the way, share the way”, the Arab Region of WAGGGS organized a WAGGGS Leadership Development Programme (WLDP) training, hosted by the Scout and Guides of Oman.The event took place from 1st to 8th June, 2014. It was a unique opportunity to build leadership capacity at an international level aiming to develop both leadership and quality Guiding. In an attempt to promote partnership, the Arab Region extended the invitation to all other four Regions. Syeda Khawar Ehsan participated in the training from Pakistan.

United Nation’s 58th Commission on Status of Women (CSW58)
The CSW is the main global policy-making body dedicated to gender equality and the advancement of women and girls and every year all UN Member States come together in New York to evaluate progress on gender equality in relation to a priority theme. Ms. Hala Sabri  of Pakistan Girl Guides Association attended the conference in March, 2014 and spoke on behalf of 10 million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts on the issues she’s faced with the MDGs. She also outlined what WAGGGS wants in the new development agenda which will replace the MDGs at the end of 2015.
