11th October is the International Day of the Girl.
THis is the day to celebrate girls’ potential and speak out for girls’ rights. This year WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides & Girl Scouts) has launched a program by the name “10 Million voices” to celebrate this day. 10 Million Voices is a program to be used by the members of all ages to celebrate International Day of the Girl 2015 and introduce the new Global Goals for Sustainable Development. These goals are being agreed by global leaders at the United Nations to shape the future of the world, and bring countries together to continue the work started by the Millennium Development Goals from 2000 – 2015.

Day of the Girl 2015: Girls Driving Development
In 2008, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts launched its Global Action Theme, calling on members of all ages to make a personal commitment to change the world around them and help to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. Girls in over 100 countries took action in their communities, proving that girls can be powerful agents of change when given the opportunity to lead.
Despite tremendous progress, there is still work to be done.
From the 25-27 September, all the nations of the world came together at the United Nations headquarters in New York to agree a new agenda – the Global Goals for Sustainable Development – setting out our common aims and aspirations for the next 15 years.
Beginning on 28 September, following the summit, and culminating on 11 October, the International Day of the Girl, we want to use these 14 days to introduce the new Global Goals to girls and young women around the world and to promote girls’ participation.
We want to celebrate girls’ contributions to the MDGs, build on our existing momentum, and inspire even more girls to take action to achieve the world they want to see. We want the world to know that girls’ voices cannot be ignored and to demand that girls be given a central and active role in creating a sustainable world, so download the 10 Million Voices curriculum and get involved with International Day of the Girl.
